Glenwood Welcomes Newcomers
This year, three foreign exchange students are attending GCHS. They are all excited to begin their adventures in the United States.
“Glenwood seems like they do everything in pride and are very competitive, which is something I like a lot!” said senior Magnus Berntsen. Berntsen is from Norway, which is located in Scandinavia, Northern Europe. Berntsen said that “people are much more welcoming, especially in Glenwood.” He enjoys meeting new people and is excited to be a part of the basketball team. He also hopes to be able to watch a live NBA game while in the United States.
Senior Yukina Hamagawa traveled here by way of an FCCLA scholarship. Originally from Okinawa, Japan, Yukina plans to enjoy the American lifestyle. “Everything is big, especially foods! And there are many friendly people here,” she said. With friends and trips planned with the band and FCCLA, Hamagawa has a busy year ahead of her. “I enjoy Glenwood very much. I have friends and I’ve had a good time with them,” she said.
Lastly, Senior Joel Ibanez of Tarija, Bolivia is excited for his time in Glenwood. He plans to participate in soccer and tennis during his time here. “I’ll try to win the state championship,” he said. Ibanez came here with the Youth Exchange Program of Rotary. He chose to come to America to learn about another culture and improve his English. “I like Glenwood. It’s a small town with nice people,” he said.
