With a New York trip planned in the spring and some exciting new groups, this could be a year to remember for the choir kids.

Every four years, the choir takes a trip somewhere. This year, they are heading to New York. In order to pay for this trip, the choir has to fundraise. To save money, they are taking a bus there and back instead of flying. The New York trip goes from March 28 to April 2.

“One of the better parts of this job is turning the music into a performance,” said Choir Director Adam Orban. “We’re always happy to have more people in the program.”

Something that has changed this year is jazz choir. In past years, there has only been one jazz choir group but this year there are two different groups so more kids can be involved. The audition to get into jazz choir involves singing a part of Stevie Wonder’s Signed, Sealed and Delivered. The jazz choir performs in many competitions including the State Festival and the Vocal Jazz Championships.

Show choir is another choir group. Show choir has both singing and dancing, unlike the other choir groups. Students who auditioned for concert choir, which is a select choir, are in show choir as well. The auditions include scales and music that they sang the previous year.

“This year we will not have a particular theme in mind, just some great music,” said senior Josie Meads. “Choreography this year will be a mixture of Mr. Johnson and some of the dance team girls.”

Choir has other groups. Mixed choir is made up of only freshmen and sophomores. Treble choir is open to all grades except freshmen.
