On Friday, May 7, the treble, bass and concert choirs performed in Atlantic for the Large Group Contest, receiving Division One Superior ratings across the board.

In past years, the choirs were able to take a trip to UNL, participating in a music festival and performing, but unfortunately due to COVID-19, these activities were cancelled.

Yet, the choirs were excited to perform away from home for the first time all year.

“It was nice to be able to share our music and talents with other schools,” said Choir Director Kevin Kilpatrick. “It’s been a while.”

Bass choir performed two pieces: “In Flanders Field” by John Jacobson & Roger Emerson and “Fillimiooriay” arranged by Lon Beery. The treble choir also performed two pieces: “Danny Boy” arranged by Carl Strommen and “Dance on My Heart” by Allen Koepke. Concert choir performed three pieces: “Salmo 150” by Ernani Aguiar, “Sure on this Shining Night” by Z. Randall Stroope featuring senior soloist Sarah Clayton and “Nothin’ Gonna Stumble My Feet” by Greg Gilpin.

The choirs had a total of 55 performing students, and more are always welcome.

“I would absolutely suggest joining choir,” said junior choir member Harbour Buchanan. “It’s a great place to hang out and have fun while still learning about music and all of the aspects that go into it.”

The Large Group Contest concluded the year’s choir performances.
