The girls cross country team is halfway through their season and is performing well after finishing top four in every race.

Runners on the varsity team have many goals for this season even with coronavirus change.

“I want our team to be known for our motto of Go the distance,” said senior Lauren Becker “I am sure when people hear the words go the distance they think about running lots of miles, but we put a different meaning behind it. We want our team to be known for going out of our way to make our school and community better.”

When COVID-19 hit, and the team was worried, but Head Coach Dani Woodman wanted to make the most out of this season.

“The team was unable to train together in June, but many of the girls were still able to train on their own,” said Woodman. “We were able to slightly adjust our training in July to be ready for the season. We missed being together.”

The team has not finished below fourth place in all of their races this year with the varsity squad.

“In previous seasons, we’ve always tried to run as a pack in practice and meets, this season is the best we’ve ever done with that,” said senior Erin Schultz “We are running in bigger groups for practices and doing well with packs running in meets. Ultimately this is going to help us edge out others teams by a few points. Our biggest strength is how close everyone on the team is. Everyone is comfortable with each other, and the family atmosphere and positive attitudes are key aspects to having a good team and even better people.”

The team will next race in Atlantic on October 8.
