The National Honors Society (NHS) is an elite organization dedicated to students who have good grades, strong leadership skills, great character and are active volunteers within their community.
“NHS has multiple requirements needed before you can apply,” said NHS Adviser Makenze West. “You must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher, a clean school record, two teacher recommendations and community service hours.”
NHS has many students who have many roles. Senior Lillian Becker is the President of NHS.
“NHS offers multiple benefits,” said Becker. “This organization looks great on a college resume and also helps students reach their community service hours. This organization teaches values like accountability and integrity.”
NHS meets once a month, usually on the first Thursday of every month. Officers of NHS meet twice a month to plan for the full meeting.
NHS participates in many philanthropic activities such as volunteering at the local storehouse, helping with operation santa and cleaning up after basketball games.
“I wanted to join the NHS because I care about my community and this organization gives me a place to help volunteers,” said Becker. “This organization is also highly competitive which intrigued me to apply. NHS is a great club that rewards students for their hard academic work and community service throughout high school.”
NHS only accepts no more than 30 people each year. The students have two weeks to complete their application. The deadline was Tuesday, February 25.
