McIntyre celebrating a state win

Junior Abby McIntyre competed in the 132 pound weight class of the IWCOA (Iowa Wrestling and Coaches Official Association) Girls’ State Wrestling Tournament. She placed first to win the state championship and is the first woman to win a state championship for Glenwood. The IWCOA Wrestling Tournament was held on January 24 and 25 at Waverly-Shell Rock High School. 

McIntyre said, “It was really cool to wrestle at state and to win it because it shows how hard I’ve worked the past few years and especially this last year.”

The entire tournament was made up of 350 female wrestlers, 52 of them competed in the 132 weight class. In round one Mclntyre won 5-0 and received a bye. In round two Mclntyre won by fall in the 1:08 minute over Josephine Wearmouth of Interstate 35. In round three Mclntyre won by technical fall in the 4:00 minute over Mea Burkle of Wilton, Quarterfinal; Mclntyre won by decision 9-5 over Lilly Luft of Charles City. In the semifinal round, Mclntyre won by fall in the 3:24 minute over Alexis Ross of Fort Dodge. In the 1st place match, Mclntyre won by fall in the 5:00 minute over Annika Behrends of Waverly-Shell Rock.
