Boys Basketball Winning Streak Continues

The Rams Basketball Team maintained their six game winning streak with a 71-41 victory over Red Oak on January 24, bringing their record to 11-3 this season. 

Senior John Palmer scored a total of 21 points, followed by senior Zach Carr with 13 points and junior Ryan Blum scoring 12. 

Facing Saint Albert on January 21, the boys won the game 67-52. Carr scored the most points with a total of 23, followed by Blum who contributed 14 points to the game. Junior Silas Bales totaled 9 points and senior John Palmer scored 7. 

On January 16, the Rams defeated Kuemper Catholic 69-54 at home. Top scorers in the game included Carr with 23 points, Blum with 20, Bales with 7 and junior Ben Hughes with 7 points. 

The boys traveled to Harlan on January 14 to face the Cyclones, and won the game with a total of 74 points, beating Harlan by 7 points (74-67). Carr and Blum both totaled 20 points, followed by Hughes and Palmer each scoring 15 points. 

On January 11, the Rams easily defeated Red Oak with a final score of 72-36. Blum scored a total of 21 points, followed by Bales with 13, Palmer with 9, Carr with 8 and senior Dylan Sondag with 7 total points. 

Traveling on January 6, the boys managed a victory over Atlantic with a final score of 64-41. Blum was the highest scorer, totaling 26 points. Bales scored 11, followed by Palmer with 9 and Carr with 8. 

On January 3, victory slipped away from the Rams in a close game with Lewis Central. The boys lost 57-62. Carr scored a total of 20 points, Blum with 10, Palmer with 9 and Hughes totaled 8 points. 

December 21 proved a difficult game against Harlan, and the Rams once again lost 66-72. Senior Nate Hughes scored 14 points, followed closely by Carr with 13, Palmer with 11 and Hughes with 9. 

On December 20, the Rams won 59-52 against Creston. Carr scored 17 points, Palmer totaled 13, followed by Blum with 12 and Hughes with 9 total points. 

The Rams lost to Omaha Roncalli Catholic at home with a total ending score of 60-75. Blum scored 31 points, followed by Carr with 13 and Palmer with 8 total points. 

The Rams devote their time during practice the basics of basketball to keep a clean game. 

“We work hard on fundamentals,” said Head Coach Curt Schulte. “We want to be fundamentally sound so it gives us the best chance to be successful.”

As they are now halfway through the basketball season, the boys are now preparing for the postseason games. 

“Me as well as the whole team’s plan is to take a step forward each day, preparing for the postseason,” said Hughes. “During the postseason we hope to win out, get to state, and win a championship.”
