Glenwood’s newest English instructor David Coakley is a family-oriented teacher with plenty of experience to share.

Coakley has two impressive degrees–a bachelors and masters degrees in English from Doane University in Crete, Nebraska and University of Nebraska at Kearney in Kearney, Nebraska, alongside graduate coursework in teaching from Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio.

Just before coming to Glenwood, Coakley taught English at Johnson County Middle school in Takumsa, Nebraska, and has spent most of his career teaching.

Outside of his teaching career, Coakley makes time for his fiance and their five children ranging from 23 to 2 years old. His hobbies include camping and traveling. He also treats himself to reading and writing to pass time.

Though Coakley’s main focus is his teaching career, he also has a tradition he keeps with his father and brother. Yearly, the family attends the College World Series together.

“Other than that I’m not really doing anything,” said Coakley. “Just kind of doing my whole teacher thing.”
