Girls’ Tennis Players Advance to State

Seniors Brooklyn Taylor and Brielle Smith qualified for the state tennis tournament in doubles. They will compete May 29 and 30 in Iowa City. Varsity tennis players finished their season matches with a winning record of 7-2. At Districts’ the girls lost to Shenandoah but beat Clarinda, ending their season with a record of 8-3.

Advancing two girls to state is just one of the many accomplishments for this team. Overall, they placed third at the Hawkeye 10 Tournament. Smith placed first at the Hawkeye 10 tournament in number two signals and Taylor placed third at the Hawkeye 10 Tournament at number one singles. Seniors Erin Stanley and Cameron Rounds finished third at the Hawkeye 10 Tournament in number one doubles and juniors Lexi Bird and Joslyn Lewis placed third at the Hawkeye 10 Tournament in number two doubles.

Tennis coach Callie Ohm appreciates the hard work the players put into their season.

I enjoy coaching because I get to see athletes improve,” said Ohm. “I love seeing their progress throughout the season and It’s always fun to see how all of their hard work pays off.”
