Glenwood Fine Arts will be sending another student to a Division 1 College band program in the Fall of 2019. Nick Bahr will be attending Iowa State University to study percussion performance, and he will be a member of the jazz band, percussion ensemble, drumline, and wind ensemble.

“I chose ISU because I felt like it could be a place where I could really thrive as a musician, Bahr said.

Bahr is no stranger to what it takes to be excellent in the fine arts as he’s played around 20 different percussion instruments through all four years of highschool.

At a solo ensemble competition in March, Bahr had an impressive performance,  receiving perfect scores for his marimba and snare solos, feat that was reached with hours upon hours of practice.

“I would say I practice about 20 hours per week,” Bahr said.

During Bahr’s time in Glenwood, he has switched from a role piece in the band to a leader as an upperclassmen. In marching band, Bahr led the drumline during early morning practices and drills.

“I think I’ve been able to be a good leader for this band. The past 2 years have really made me mature,” said Bahr.
