Color guard placed fifth out of twelve teams and received a Division 1 rating at the state competition in Des Moines on November 29 and 30.

Second year coach Jacqueline Johnson said, “Our goal was to place at state and we did accomplish that goal. I really enjoy working with a group of girls that are excited about what they do, are willing to try new things, and look for ways to improve. I believe that each year is different and we get to find fun ways to entertain a crowd.”

Performing is a joy for many of the girls and each girl tries their hardest to make the routine clean.

Senior Jenna Howard has been in color guard since her eighth grade year.

“I enjoy performing and the ride up to the competition. I also enjoy the team bonding activity of bowling each year,” said Howard.

At the competition, the team was judged on their appearance, choreography/content, technique/execution, movement and general effect/showmanship.

Although the girls hoped to place higher than their last year place of fourth, they are still proud of the hard work that was put into their routine.

“We did not place as high as last year but I know all of the girls worked hard and I believe our performance overall was better than last year,” said senior color guard member Ellie Brown.

The girls look forward to working hard and competing next year to the best of their ability.
