Both the boys and girls cross country teams qualified for state at the districts meet on October 18. The girls team got second place overall, while the boys placed third.

Senior Janette Schraft placed first individually with a time of 18:42.74, and senior Lacey Jackson took ninth with a time of 20:39.66. Senior Parson Covington placed 13 with a time of 17:29.17 with junior Sam McIntyre close behind placing 15 at 17:47.96.

“Our goals entering the season were to win the conference and qualify for state as a team,” said Senior Parson Covington. “We just missed out on achieving the first goal, so it felt very accomplishing to qualify the team for state.”

The girls are looking forward to improving their times at state.

“Our performance as a team at the district meet was not our best, but we got the job done and know what we need to work on for the state meet,” said senior Abigail Schultz.

The boys are ready to go to state and implement a team strategy.

“At the state meet we hope to run as a pack for as long as possible. I’d say our overall goal is to finish within the top 10 teams, but we don’t plan on letting that limit us either. We will go out there and see what we can do,” said Covington.

The state cross country meet takes place Saturday 27 at Fort Dodge.
