Sixteen teams attended the STAR Events, 15 out of the 16 advance to State with silver, and six teams were awarded gold.

FCCLA students traveled to Logan, Iowa on January 31 for the Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) Events. “STAR Events are competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills and career preparation,” said FCCLA Advisor Janis Moore. Members create projects in many categories such as Sports Nutrition, Recycle & Redesign and Leadership, presenting them to judges along with a written speech.

Junior Jacob Severn had high hopes for the competition. “I have received gold at a national level in my STAR Event last year and want to do the same this year.”

Sophomore Ranni Leahy was one of the members in the six teams who advanced to state. “My group received a gold, and to us that’s a huge accomplishment. We’ve been wanting a gold for a while.”

Severn and his team also received gold and are continuing on to State. “My team has two members who are new to FCCLA and STAR Events so I am glad we got gold to boost their confidence,” he said.

Those who are advancing to State include; freshman Julia Rader with Career Investigation; senior Yukina Hamagawa with Career Investigation; sophomore Ranni Leahy and juniors Shay Wasenius and Kenzie Zeski with Chapter in Review Portfolio; juniors Kenzie Endicott and Savannah Mellon with Chapter Service Project Display; freshmen Jocelynn Lindgren, Chloe Morse and Vivianne Payne with Focus on Children; sophomores Breanna Epperson and Ashley Johnson with Focus on Children; freshmen Maggie Begbie and Zoe Mattox with Food Innovations; seniors Allie Hundt, Lauren Mitchell and Jessica Williams with Food Innovations; freshmen Cheyanne Groom and Bree Severn with Illustrated Talk; junior Morgan LaViolette and sophomore Jaeda Wilson with Illustrated Talk; senior Autumn Aspedon with Leadership;  junior Trinity Harris with Life Event Planning; sophomores Morgan Richter, Hayllee Sell and Macy Soergel with National Programs in Action; junior Jamie Poole with Recycle & Redesign; senior Magnus Berntsen and juniors Calla Denton and Jacob Severn with Sports Nutrition.
